BC Forest Safety Ombudsman’s Report – Will It Be There? – A Report on Helicopter Emergency Services in BC
Roger Harris has been the BC Forest Safety Ombudsman since 2006. The Ombudsman has a mandate to enhance safety in the BC forest sector and to provide an open and free environment in which to discuss critical issues in the industry.
As Ombudsman, Roger has authored several reports, all of which made recommendations to government. To date more than half of those recommendations have been adopted.
Roger Harris also served from 2001 – 2005 as a BC MLA and Cabinet Minister.
His recent report on Helicopter Emergency Services while initially driven by worker-related issues, is more relevant to remote community issues of declining population and challenges in attracting investment and people to relocate to a rural environment where quality of life factors like health care present a significant barrier.
There are in fact, no infrastructure or human resources barriers to the provision of adequate emergency transportation for all British Columbians. The reality that rural communities in BC are under-serviced continues to be a choice made by government.
